Role and Responsibility of Treasurer in CHS

Under the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960, and its Model Bye-laws, the treasurer's role in a housing society typically involves financial oversight. Key duties include:

  1. Maintenance of Accounts: Ensuring accurate records of all financial transactions, including income, expenses, and liabilities.
  2. Preparation of Budgets and Financial Statements: Assisting in creating the society’s annual budget and ensuring proper financial reporting.
  3. Collection of Dues: Overseeing the collection of maintenance fees and other charges from members.
  4. Disbursement of Payments: Approving payments for society expenses, such as repairs, maintenance, and utility bills.
  5. Compliance with Statutory Obligations: Ensuring timely filing of statutory returns, including income tax and audit reports.

The treasurer also plays a crucial role in managing society funds like the sinking fund, maintenance fund, and reserve fund, ensuring their utilization aligns with the society's resolutions and regulatory requirements.
